Fishing Tactics, Tips, & Techniques

Fishing Hideout

Successful fishing is an art that can be learned. Mastering the basics of fishing takes time and effort, but with persistence everyone can consistently catch fish.

The processes involved are simple. Learn the waters you fish most often, be it lake, pond, river, or brook; know the seasonal habits and preferences of the fish species you're fishing for, and practice the various presentation techniques that provide repeated fishing success.

There are no "hot lures", "magic scented baits", or secret's known only to a few privileged anglers. Everyone can do it! Read a few of our fishing articles, apply and practice the techniques on your next fishing trip, and watch your fishing catch rates grow as you increase in fishing knowledge and your presentation skills are honed....

Site Dedication: In Memory of My Dad

My Dad

This fishing site is dedicated to my Dad, Robert S. Gardner. He left this earth on April 19, 2006 to be with The Lord Jesus. With his recent passing I've lost my best fishing partner and unwavering friend. His love of the outdoors and sense of sportsmanship I'll always carry with me. I had the priviledge of calling this man "Dad".

Pa, whether on a fly fishing river in the backcountry of Maine or a wilderness lodge in Manitoba, you'll always be in my thoughts. One day we'll again walk a stream bank together in the wilds of Idaho, fly fishing for cutthroat trout, or stand in a rainstorm on an island in Ontario, Canada lake country in pursuit of walleye. We miss you, Pa. Alot. Keep your hooks sharp....We love you.
Your Sons,
Den, Steve, Tom, & Barry

Fishing Tips

Stream curves are often productive spots. Sometimes they gouge out undercut banks along the outside edge of the curve and these are often safe-havens for lunker sized fish. If there is a riffle upstream of the undercut bank or a good current flowing into the bank, cast your bait or lure upstream and let the current drift it into the pool beneath the bank. Spots like this usually demand three or four casts and drifts to throughly cover the pool. Make sure your lure or bait is just off the bottom.
